Half Filled or Just Empty??

Am cold, weary and going through mixed emotions… I feel like crying but in this state I am sure tears won’t pave a way for me in this situation. I settle for the chairs we brought weeks ago. They are wooden with no cushions to offer solace. Let alone a pillow. I suddenly remember the comfort of my bed, the heat emanating from under the pink covers and I wonder just how this could happen. My brother as usual goes on with his daily tidings. Undeterred by the situation I am caught up in. Oh life…

Sometimes life seems so unfair to us and this at times is contributed by the people around us. We are often caught up in things that makes as question really the apparent injustice life throws at us. True indeed as someone once said “You may not control what happens to you in life but you can control how you react to it”. Pastor Oketch, a well known pastor shepherding Redeemed Gospel Church in Kisumu, Mamboleo during one of his powerful teachings said “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”. The fact that life and everything that constitutes its environ (people) throws a lemon at you doesn’t mean you have to throw a lemon back at it. Create lemonade out if it and impact those around you.

The kind of allegiance the Christians had during Apostle Paul’s time always amazes me. Most of them faced persecution and imprisonment. They had what I call ‘human excuse’ to discontinue their call of preaching about Christ but because they knew the price of their higher calling and its worth, all that was thrown to discourage the spread of Christ’s resurrection and the new life did not deter them (rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great [is] your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets before you). They forged on, lead by the spirit… knowing what was eminent and yet willing to sacrifice it all so that people would know about Christ, so that the lost could also partake of the new life and receive eternal life.

In Mathew 5:44, Christ taught that, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” So no matter how wrong things seem to go and people’s injustice always having a bearing in your life, remember to always do good and invest in the lives of people around you for God’s glory. Things may not always go as we want them to; as we had planned but in all situations we still thank Jesus. Because He remains to be and will always be the King of Kings whose name is above all other.

So even as I prepare to sleep in the most unexpected places I’ve ever imagined and in such discomfort, locked out from my own room I thank God. Yes, the door won’t open, I cannot enjoy my 6 x 3 comfy mattress or even slip into my warm pajamas but I still have life in me… am in good health and safe for the night all thanks to my God. What more can I look at? The half filled part of the cup or the empty half? Definitely the half filled part and I rejoice in it!
